We're done... Czech Please!

Don't get us wrong, this little town is really quite charming and fun, but we are ready to move on and get back on track in Munich! We were only here for two days and managed to eat ourselves out of house and home- it's true: everything here is VERY cheap, even despite the dollar's weak worldly status. For instance, the beer is cheaper than water... which I'm sure might be a controversial statement considering the water in the U.S. is free. But you have to remember, we are in Europe and we've been paying on average $10 per day on bottled water alone. Yet here, we've managed to spend about $1 for a large-and-in-charge GOOD brewski and about $1.10 for our humongous "juice boxes," AKA boxed wine- and we have pictures to prove it!!!!

Yesterday, in an attempt to get downtown and find Wencelas Square, we forgot that we're in the Czech Rep and not one of the other self-explanotory cities with logical public transportation systems (i.e. major landmarks and sites are listed and posted). Consequently, we ended up in timbuktu, about 12 stops passed where we wanted to get off, and I think we would have continued riding this train into the sunset had Colleen not taken out her map and finally said something. We jumped off in a real dodgy looking part of town, but then again, the whole town is infested with graffiti and kind of resembles the 110 at midnight, and managed to get back on the train in the opposite direction. And thank God we did!!!!! I don't know if any of you have ever been blessed enough, or subject, to viewing a male with a camel toe. Unfortunately, the jeans tend to be on the tight end of the spectrum around here and Colleen's roving eye spotted just this on the train. We somehow managed to conjure up a way to take a picture of Colleen on the tram so we could share this monumental occasion with all of you. And you are welcome!

We've actually tried our luck numerous times on the tram here ... we bought tickets at the hostel the first few times but in our drunken state when we were out and about, we could never figure out how to repurchase them, thus running the risk of being fined everytime we took the tram (think street car in SF) home. Luckily, we made it, each and every time! Except for last night after we went to a jazz club, where we swear to God Napoleon Dynamite was headlining the show, and we have pictures and video footage to prove that too! Apparently, their trams are supposed to run all night long- oh really fool... then why did we get the privilege of riding home in a miniature taxi at 12:30am last night with our new friend from Brown? BECAUSE THE TRAM STOPPED RUNNING 10 MINUTES BEFORE WE GOT TO THE STOP!!!!!

Anywho, we thought we were being pretty smart and found a flyer for "THE ULTIMATE TOUR" in our hostel... looked good: "liquid refreshments on board the boat, a legit 3-course Czech lunch, etc..." Huh, that's funny- we almost were shot in the restaurant because our new friends Jay and Amy from Dublin, Ireland ordered the Beef Goulash and Jay received about 3 mini cubes of meat. When we politely asked the waiter where the rest of his meal was, Colleen and I honestly thought we were going to see "The Soup Nazi Part II" because this guy went off! He was telling us that they weigh the portions and that equaled the appropriate allocation and so on- funny how Amy's plate was piled with meat! We bitched and complained until the tour guide got us more beef and we all just chuckled in the corner as the rest of the group scowled on!

All in all, the tour was pretty horrible- the only part we actually liked were the liquid refreshments on the boat cruise, the liquid refreshments at lunch, our new friends from Dublin and the Prague Castle and Vitrus' Cathedral. We probably could have done the tour ourselves and saved ourselves the money but the damn street names here are so confusing, it would have taken us 6 hours just to figure that out! Oh yeah, we forgot to mention our tour guide, Nina, who was more preoccupied advertising the various crystal shops and restaurants in the city, as well as other tours we should take, that she forgot to actually tell us about what we paid to see. I'm sure her commissions will be wonderful though this month!

So now, we are homeless, sitting back in our hostel without a room, toilet or water, and we only have 20 minutes left on the internet. That being said, we're getting ready to hit the night train for Munich tonight and we'll arrive there at 6am tomorrow morning- not sure if we are taking the long route thru Russia, Mongolia and China because everyone here swears that the train ride should take about 5 1/2 hours and ours is mysteriously taking 8 hours. Who cares- we bought more "juices boxes" and our pajamas are ready to rock and roll.

Talk to you all from Florence where we will write the Munich update. Czech you later!

Love, Kyle & Colleen
